Collection: Iowa
100% American-made Iowa state flags
On December 28, 1846, Iowa was admitted as the twenty-ninth state of the US.
From an agricultural economy to a diversified economy of manufacturing and processing, information technology, financial services, green energy production, and biotechnology, Iowa made a grand transition over the later half of the twentieth century. Des Moines, the state’s capital, is the largest city in Iowa, and the political and economic hub of the state.
Iowa’s rolling hills bridge the forests in the east and the high prairie plains in the west. Not only does Iowa boast a beautiful and varied landscape, it has also been listed as one of the safest states to live in.
The Iowa State Flag was originally designed by Dixie Cornell Gebhardt, one of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Iowa, in 1917. Although first approved in May of 1917, the flag was not officially adopted until 1921. The Iowa State flag consists of three large, vertical color stripes of blue, white, and red. The colors symbolize the state’s French heritage. Inside the white stripe in the center of the flag is a bald eagle carrying a long flowing banner which reads, “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain”.
